How We Use Your Information

What information does ‘the software’ collect about me and why?

If you create or maintain a Protecteon account:

We CollectWhy We Collect It
Your username
  • To create and support your Protecteon account
  • To enable you to log-in to Protecteon
  • To enable you to add the child accounts you have created to another user’s Protecteon app, so they may also monitor your child/children (a spouse, partner, the child’s other parent for example)
  • To enable Protecteon’s support team to assist you with any possible errors or faults
Your e-mail address
  • To create and support your Protecteon account
  • To communicate with you
  • To verify your email address to help prevent spam, fraud and abuse
  • To enable you to reset your password, in case you forget it
  • To send you very occasional marketing e-mails from Protecteon only (that you may opt out of within the said e-mail). We do not believe in constant marketing e-mails and ‘newsletters’ – follow us on Twitter to keep up-to-date with us - @Protecteon
  • To enable Protecteon’s support team to assist you with any possible errors or faults
Your device identifier
  • To send you Push Notifications. Push Notifications are alerts that will notify you when your child has sent you a website access request from Wild. Push Messages can be disabled on your device if you wish
  • To provide account support
  • To calculate anonymous statistics on the number of unique devices using the Protecteon Service. Device Identifiers are not included in the statistic results
Your child’s name * For you to know which child account you are ‘administering’:

  • To identify which child’s user account you are administering within Protecteon
  • To identify which child’s settings you are changing
  • To display alerts to confirm which child you wish to apply new settings to
  • To display alerts to advise which child account there may be a problem with
  • To identify which child account/s you are selecting to add to another Protecteon user’s account, so they may also monitor your child/children (a spouse, partner, the child’s other parent for example)
Your child’s username
  • To allow you to configure their device and lock-down it’s browsing capabilities to Wild (to log-in to the Wild app on their device)
  • To allow you to reset the child’s Wild account password

* As stated in the table above, your child’s name is only used to identify to you which child you are ‘administering’ within ‘the software’. The child name can be anything you wish – it does not have to be their real name if you do not wish, and it certainly does not have to be their full name.

What information does ‘the software’ collect about my child and why?

‘The software’ does not collect any personally identifiable information about your child with the exception of their name (usage described above). However, it does, obviously, collect Internet usage information as per the table below. If you create a child account within Protecteon, you consent to ‘the software’ collecting the following information from within Wild (from your child):

We CollectWhy We Collect It
Web pages that your child visits
  • To populate their Browsing History within Wild so they may navigate to previous pages they have visited
  • To populate the ‘Browsing History’ section of their account within Protecteon for you to review
Web pages that your child attempts to visit, but are blocked by Protecteon’s filters/rules
  • To populate the ‘Blocked Content Alerts’ section of their account within Protecteon for you to review
Phrases that your child searches for on the Internet
  • To populate the ‘Searches’ log section of their account within Protecteon for you to review
Protecteon ‘Request’ “text” messages from your child to you
  • To populate the ‘Requests’ section of their account within Protecteon with the reason they have typed for wishing to have access to a blocked site
Your child’s device identifier
  • To send them Push Notifications from you. Push Notifications are alerts that will notify your child when you have approved or denied their request for access to a blocked website. Push Notifications can be disabled on your child’s device if you wish
  • To calculate anonymous statistics on the number of unique devices using the Wild browser. Device Identifiers are not included in the statistic results
PLEASE NOTE: No location information or personally identifiable information is knowingly collected by Protecteon, from your child, whilst they are using ‘the software’. If we learn that we have inadvertently obtained information in violation of applicable laws (in the child’s location) prohibiting collection of information from children without such consent, we will promptly delete it. Please bear in mind though – although Protecteon can configure some advanced blocking and filtering rules for Wild, remember that Wild is an Internet Browser and, as such, Protecteon can not be held liable for other websites collecting your child’s personal information, without your consent, whilst they are using Wild to browse the Internet.

If you are in the United States and you are creating a child account, within Protecteon, for a child under the age of 13 to use Wild, of whom you are not the parent or legal guardian, you must notify the child’s parents/legal guardians of the personally identifiable information ‘the software’ will collect and obtain parental/guardian consent before creating the child account within Protecteon. When obtaining such consent, you must provide the child’s parents/guardians with a copy of our Privacy Policy. You must keep a copy of the consent on file and provide it to any relevant authority, should it be requested. For more information on complying with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”), see the Federal Trade Commission’s website at http://www.ftc.gov/privacy/coppafaqs.shtm. If you are located outside of the United States, it is your responsibility to obtain any required consent or approval from the parent or guardian of any child covered by similar laws in your location and, as a condition to your and the child’s use of ‘the software’, you agree that you will be responsible for complying with such laws.

What tracking/location information does Protecteon collect about my devices, my child or me?

None. Protecteon has a ‘Locate Child’ feature within the app. This opens Apple’s iCloud within a ‘browser window’ in the app (iPad only) and uses Apple’s “Find My iPhone” tracking information to locate your child’s device on a map, within iCloud. The iCloud window is simply shown within Protecteon for convenience. Please refer to Apple’s Privacy Policy for guidance on iCloud and Find My iPhone. This service will obviously only work if you have enabled iCould and Find My iPhone services on your child’s iOS device.

How We Store Your Information

Where is it stored?

The physical infrastructure where your data is stored is hosted and managed within Amazon’s secure data centers and utilize the Amazon Web Service (AWS) technology. Amazon continually manages risk and undergoes recurring assessments to ensure compliance with industry standards. Amazon’s data center operations have been accredited under:

  • ISO 27001
  • SOC 1/SSAE 16/ISAE 3402 (Previously SAS 70 Type II)
  • PCI Level 1
  • FISMA Moderate
  • Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)
  • PCI

How secure is it?

Amazon has many years of experience in designing, constructing, and operating large-scale data centers. This experience has been applied to the AWS platform and infrastructure. AWS data centers are housed in nondescript facilities, and critical facilities have extensive setback and military grade perimeter control berms as well as other natural boundary protection. Physical access is strictly controlled both at the perimeter and at building ingress points by professional security staff utilizing video surveillance, state of the art intrusion detection systems, and other electronic means. Authorized staff must pass two-factor authentication no fewer than three times to access data center floors. All visitors and contractors are required to present identification and are signed in and continually escorted by authorized staff.

How long is it stored for?

Browser history data within Wild remains until it is 30 days old or it is cleared by the child. The child’s browsing history log for you to review in Protecteon also remains until it is 30 days old or it is cleared by you. Once your child has cleared their browsing history, or you have cleared the child’s browsing history log in Protecteon, it has been permanently deleted from our servers. Other information in relation to the configuration of individual child accounts (surfing mode, AllowList, BlockList, blocked keyword list, search queries performed, blocked content alerts) will remain until these items are deleted by you within Protecteon. Other items like child website access ‘Requests’, child name, usernames, your registration e-mail address, are all kept until the account they refer to is deleted. To delete an account, you must e-mail us.

Access to your data

Protecteon staff do not access or interact with your data as a part of general day-to-day operations. We will only interact with your data to investigate and fix any issues you may report to us from within any help & support functions/features or error notifications within ‘the software’. We will treat any support request you submit to us from your Protecteon account’s registered e-mail account as a request from yourself for us to interact with your data to fix any underlying problems or issues.

Communication

Occasionally, we may contact you via email with information about product improvements, new features or changes to the services ‘the software’ provides. We take privacy very seriously though and will never release your contact information to a third party or sell your contact information to advertisers or any other vendor. You may opt-out of this sort of communication by selecting the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any such e-mails. You will still receive any service related e-mails and still be able to use the ‘reset password’ feature in ‘the software’ to receive a password reset e-mail from Protecteon.

Contact Us

If you have any questions or queries in relation to this Policy and the use of information within ‘the software’, we can be contacted by e-mail.
